IMC at Cork City Sports

Warm and blustery conditions was not conducive to fast times at the Cork CIty sports as the IMC continued its road show with a series of 800m races.

In the A race there was a dramatic start as Fergal Ellis tripped and fell heavily and this impeded a few others in the field.

Fergal picked himself up and decided to go into the B race rather than chase after the long departed A field.

In the race itself Anthony Lieghio found himself, yet again, in the lead after the pace maker dropped out. He held this lead until 80 m to go when, with an astonishing turn of speed,Paul Robinson surged past the field to win the race in a pb of 1.53.43. James Ledingham just pipped 2nd spot ahead of the brave front runner Anthony Lieghio.

The Men's B race was badly hit by non shows by three athletes. Left with a small field of 4 the main focus was on the IMC's top master Rob Cross to see whether he could break 2 mins for the first time and win his 3rd IMC race. However James McCarthy proved too strong and he came home in 1.58.72 from Aidan Mullins and Fergal Ellis. Rob 's quest for the sub 2min will have to continue for another day.

Preparations are finalising for the last IMC of 2009 which will be held on Sat 25th July in Irishtown which is a week before the Nationals. Details on the website shortly.
