This is it, the final IMC meet of 2009 and great prepartion for the Irish National Championships the following week.
The IMC poll of our members was heavily in favour of 1500’s (40%) and 800’s (26%) for our last meet. A smaller percentage of 10% want a 3k.
So we are holding all three races with the proviso that a minimum of 12 enter the 3k. For those that wanted a 600 and 1,000 race why not pace a 800 or 1500m race instead and collect pace making cash?? All those interested in pace making please email Michael McGovern at coach1mcgovern@gmail.com.

We were hit badly in Cork City by no shows. This gave us no time to reorganise the races and ruined one of the races for the remaining athletes.
So for the 25th July meet, any athlete who enters the race and fails to show up on the night WITHOUT having informed the IMC prior to 12 am on race day will be charged Eur 25 for their next IMC race. Obviously this will be in 2010 and this charge will be in addition to their 2010 membership fee. Such notification to be sent to the above email.
Requests to enter the race after close of 23rd July will not be guaranteed and if accepted will be subject to a fee of Eur 20 payable on the night.
Warm and blustery conditions was not conducive to fast times at the Cork CIty sports as the IMC continued its road show with a series of 800m races.
In the A race there was a dramatic start as Fergal Ellis tripped and fell heavily and this impeded a few others in the field.
Fergal picked himself up and decided to go into the B race rather than chase after the long departed A field.
In the race itself Anthony Lieghio found himself, yet again, in the lead after the pace maker dropped out. He held this lead until 80 m to go when, with an astonishing turn of speed,Paul Robinson surged past the field to win the race in a pb of 1.53.43. James Ledingham just pipped 2nd spot ahead of the brave front runner Anthony Lieghio.
The Men's B race was badly hit by non shows by three athletes. Left with a small field of 4 the main focus was on the IMC's top master Rob Cross to see whether he could break 2 mins for the first time and win his 3rd IMC race. However James McCarthy proved too strong and he came home in 1.58.72 from Aidan Mullins and Fergal Ellis. Rob 's quest for the sub 2min will have to continue for another day.
Preparations are finalising for the last IMC of 2009 which will be held on Sat 25th July in Irishtown which is a week before the Nationals. Details on the website shortly.

The IMC will again be kindly hosted by the organisers of the Cork City Sports this Saturday in the famous Mardyke arena on the city's southside. Top of the bill is the men's A 800m race which includes IMC regular Anthony Lieghio, the returning Darragh Greene and the up and coming Paul Robinson.
Keith Maher will take the pace through 400m in 54 seconds. Mark Mc Donald and Ronan Duggan will also look to make improvements on their personal best times. The men's B race sees Rob Cross of Crusaders who recently won at the last IMC take on a number of Munster based athletes including Aidan Mullins of Bantry AC and James Mc Carthy of East Cork.
The women's race will be combined with the Junior Women event and will see Dawn Kelly of Belgooly and Ailbhe O'Driscoll of UCC feature. Athletes should check in as per other athletes on the day. Those who need to pay their 2009 membership should bring a completed form and payment with them and call Michael Mc Govern on 085-7391766 who will represent the IMC in Cork on Saturday.
Many IMC athletes will feature in the men's and women's 1500m and 3000m races in the build up to the National Championships which are now 5 weeks away. Entries for the IMC Meeting in Irishtown will open next week with full details to be placed on the website on Monday.
